Best Dad Ever!

Today, I’m thankful for being a dad!

My son made this for me, while he was in kindergarten!  He manage to keep it hidden from me until Father’s Day!  When I saw it for the first time, I asked him when he made this and he told me … at school!  He was so proud of making it, but not as proud as he was giving it to me as one of my gifts!

My heart was deeply moved by the words, “Best Dad Ever’!  However, this was not the first time that he has share these words with me.  As a matter of fact, he uses them quite frequently … mostly when he’s trying to get Dad to say yes to something he wants.  HA! HA ! Which seems like a lot these days,

All kidding aside, it’s these words like this that makes my thankful that I’m a Dad.  And no matter what happens, how many times I tell him no, or how many times I have to discipline him … he still things that I’m the Best Dad Ever.

Of course, there are many times when I don’t even think I live up to this title.  Yep, I’m not a perfect Dad and I don’t know of any Dad that is.  I’m just trying to be best Dad I can be for him.  And yes, I will miss up a lot but I also have a lot chances to get it right.  Still, in the end, it doesn’t really matter because my boy will say these words to me and my whole heart will melt  … and for that moment, all of my challenges as a Dad are washed away!

I certainly felt like the Best Dad Ever on Father’s Day, this year!  The biggest reason for that feeling was the fact that I’m a Dad.  One of the things, I love being the most.  And I’m so thankful that God blessed me with the opportunity to be a Dad … because I wouldn’t change it for nothing!

What about you?  If you’re a dad, what are some of your ‘best dad ever’ moments?  If you’re not a dad, what memories of your Dad to you have that you would classify as ‘best dad ever’.

Thankful Thursday – My Kid’s Art

The picture above is one of many drawing from my very creative and imaginative 5 year old. This is a picture of him walking his dog.  And the three items in front of him is a stick, a sock, and mac n cheese. So, I’m guessing the stick and sock is for his dog … the mac n cheese is for him!

If I were to count every drawing my son has created for me, then I wouldn’t have time to complete this blog!

So, today I’m thankful for my kid’s art! Why … you ask?  One reason is the sense of accomplishment he has when he completes a drawing.  Another reason is his excitement in sharing his drawing.  Finally, I get to see his imagination run wild as he tells me about his drawing!

With all three of those, I can’t help but get a huge smile on face and in my heart every time I pick up one of his drawings!

Happy Thursday!

Thankful Thursday – Dreams

What are dreams?

Are dreams real?

Do dreams come true?

Does everyone dream?

Should you follow your dreams?

Those are just a few questions that I have had (and I’m sure others have too) about dreams. I can’t began to count the number of times that I have heard or even said … follow your dreams! Yet, I wonder how many of us heed that advice and how many of us are successful at following our dreams. Who knows??

Throughout my life, I think that I have heeded that advice a time or two … and followed a few of my dreams.  And I must admit several of them have come through … graduating from college, moving to a new city, going on a mission trip, becoming a father and husband … just to name a few!

Yes, like many people, I have many other dreams that I too hope will come true one day … being a published writer, having more kids, our first home.

So, today, I’m thankful for ‘dreams’ for they remind that I have the a chance to achieve and be more than I am everyday.

Thankful Thursday –Reminders

Well, my post is a day late and I probably should have heeded my first reminder … but here it is anyway!

I’m thankful for reminders! Although I don’t always take action n them once they alert me, but I’m pretty sure I would be a little more lost without them.

There are all kinds of reminders out … from some simple ones … pick up the milk, go to the bank, pick up the dry cleaning, soccer practice, recital at 8, church on Sunday, don’t forget your lunch, take out the thrash, finals next week, don’t forget to pick up the kids, return that purchase … and I could go on and on.

To some in depth ones … these are the ones that reminds us who we are, where we came from, how much we love someone or something, how much we don’t like something or someone, a special birthday, anniversaries, special moments and memories, past hurts, past joys … so on and on.

As I write this, all kinds of reminders came to mind … perhaps the greatest reminder for me is God’s unconditional love and forgiveness!  It reminds me that I am not perfect, will make mistakes, and might feel unloved at times but in God’s eyes I am his and always will be!

Whatever your reminders are today … try not to put them off or forget them!

Thankful Thursday – Creativity

Today,  I’m  thankful for the creativeness of my 5 year old. I got to see the two books he made in school this week. The titles of his two books  are The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and The Pirates Book. He drew all the pictures in both books and his teacher wrote out the words for him.

He read both books to me based on the pictures that he drew and they pretty much match what his teacher had wrote. I was so proud of him and he was pretty excited about his books.

Creativity takes many shapes and forms … and its seen even in the youngest of us. I’m  truly thankful for the creativity that God has given him and look forward to what he will create in the days to come.  I’m  pretty sure I’ll  be even more of proud daddy when that time comes!

Thankful Thursdays: Headphones at Work

There are many days that I’m thankful for having my headphones at work, mainly to drown out all the noise around me.

Today, I am extremely thankful because facilities management thought it would be a great day to reassemble/disassemble several cubicles around me this morning. For the last 10 minutes, the sound of drills, banging, and instructions have invade my air space.

Normally, I have to endure the many louder than usual conversations from the individuals on the other side of my wall.  I’m sorry but I don’t want to hear what you did last night, over the weekend, what you brought for lunch, or what your frustrated with

So, thank goodness for my headphones (and the volume button)!!!

Now, only if they were noise cancelling …

Enjoy your quietness, wherever you may be! 🙂

Thankful Thursday: Warmth

On this cold and snowy Colorado day, I’m so thankful for being warm!  It can be the warmth from the Sun in the midst of the cold or the warmth from a pair of my favorite cozy socks. Even the warmth from a hot cup of coffee or the warmth from my fireplace.  Or the warmth from turning the thermostat up just a little or the warmth from a nice, cozy hug from my son and wife. I could go on and on … but I think you get that I’m thankful for the warmth.

Where ever you may be or whatever you may be doing … hopefully, you’re enjoying the ‘warmth’ around you … and may you take it one step further and share the ‘warmth with others!
